Junior Lighting Designer 

Description: 

Entry level position (1-2 years experience will be considered, but not mandatory).

Assist other staff in creating all design work produced in the office – from concept sketches to detailed design and specification writing. 

Communication with other design team members and manufacturers via email and telephone.

Attend design team meetings, site visits, and focusing of lighting equipment at handover.

Requirements:

First and foremost, be highly motivated, professional, and passionate about your work.   

Applicants without a lighting background will have a degree in architecture or interior design. 

Highly visually with ability to read architecture drawings and details.  

Proficiency with AutoCad, MSOffice, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, and Dialux, a minimum. 

Fluency in English, both spoken and written, mandatory.

We are seeking to fulfil a diverse position, working with both our product and lighting design teams and directly with external Architects, Designers, Clients and Contractors.  

The role involves providing innovative ideas and solutions for a varied range of technical and creative challenges through the design, production and installation process, from concept to completion.

Intermediate Product Designer

Successful applicants must have good design skills and be able to work well individually and within a team.  A willingness to learn and genuine ambition to progress a career in lighting related product design are a prerequisite.

Skills, Role and Experience

Successful candidates will demonstate the following abilities; 

 

  • Be capable of generating creative and innovative conceptual design ideas.
  • Excellent design detailing skills.  The ability to generate buildable solutions to design problems.
  • Lateral and proactive thinking, essential to enable projects to be completed on time and to budget. 
  • Production planning, scheduling and prioritisation experience.  
  • A good understanding of manufacturing process and communication with manufacturers to resolve production issues.
  • Experience in site specific installations and pragmatic design thinking to take into account all aspects of on-going projects.
  • Transparent, efficient and proactive communication to resolve ‘on site’ issues with project teams.
  • Understanding the design process from beginning to end including; production of engineering drawings, assembly, preparation of installation instructions and fixing on site.

 

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe and MS Office are essential. Understanding of Solidworks a benefit.

Product Designer at Luum Lighting

Luum is a London-based contemporary lighting studio, dedicated to the design, manufacture and delivery of spectacular light installations for beautiful interiors around the world.

Our process is defined by a thoughtful and considered approach; It is sensitive to the relationship between architecture and light with a focus on delivering dynamic lighting and impactful design.

Luum work in a variety of ways for a wide range of design conscious clients, from designers and specifiers to private individuals. We cover a range of sectors including hospitality, commercial, public and residential spaces.

As a young company we have an exciting opportunity for a talented Product Designer to join our team and play a significant role in our growth. The position will involve developing and managing highly contemporary and original light installation projects from initial enquiry through to final install.

The right candidate would have a minimum of three years experience as a product designer or project manager, preferably in the field of lighting . We are looking for motivated individuals with good knowledge of manufacturing processes who are well versed in the the process of bringing designs to live.

Main responsibilities:

● Develop projects from concept through to manufacture and install under the creative direction of the lead designer

● Fully manage projects from start to finish

● Prepare and manage project schedules and budgets

● Develop designs proposals and prepare tender and quotation documents

● Manage and develop project supply chains and sub-contractors

● Provide on-site supervision during installation

To do all this we think that you are going to need the following skills and experience:

● A minimum three years of relevant experience in product design or similar discipline

● A degree in product design; or closely related

● Excellent 3D CAD and visualisation software skills ( Solidworks, 3DS Max, Maxwell Render an advantage)

● Experience producing production drawings 

● Sound technical knowledge of product manufacturing methods.

● Outstanding attention to detail and an ability to deliver

● Be a great communicator/negotiator

We are looking for a specialist lighting designer to join the growing London studio in Shoreditch, EC2A.

The role in brief:

       Managing a range of projects from client brief to commissioning.

       Formulating lighting concepts, selecting luminaires.

       Documentation of concepts, layouts, details and schematics.

       Project cost estimating.

       Communicating with clients throughout the project. 

 

Your skills:

       You will be passionate about light and the built environment, something that will be demonstrated through your portfolio.

       You will have a degree and masters qualification in design or architecture, with a recognised lighting design qualification at NVQ level 3 equivalent or above.

       You will have an excellent working knowledge of the following software: AutoCAD, Photoshop, Indesign, Revit, Rhino, Sketchup, Dialux, AGI32.

       Moreover you will be able to demonstrate excellence in computational rendering using the AGI32 Plug-in for Autodesk Revit.

       You will be fluent in English, both spoken and written, and you will be comfortable meeting with and presenting to clients.

       You will be able to demonstrate that you have managed your own projects from concept to commissioning, and that you have worked independently on simultaneous projects.

A preference for cheese & onion crisps is desirable but not a deal-breaker.

Senior Sales Engineer

Reporting directly to the Sales Director your responsibilities will include:

• Developing and maintaining relationships of key specifiers to maximise their specification potential.

In order to succeed in this role you must be a self-starter, willing to establish the sales capabilities for the UK specifiers and grow the market. You will need to demonstrate a consistent history of sales and business development operating at the highest level of selling architectural lighting products. You will be able to support clients through the sales process as well as act as project manager during the technical build and implementation phase. You should hold a full driving license as you will need to travel by car.

Sales Support

The role is principally to assist the UK sales team with project work and client liaison, this is to enable greater time for the sales team to generate new client contacts as well as continue with excellent servicing of existing clients. You will be directly accountable to the Sales Director but will be involved with all members of the team. You should have excellent communication skills, being able to correspond with different people on all levels and we prefer that you have technical sales or design experience. You should have a pro-active attitude, be well organised and have a willingness to learn about the company’s products and industry.

Remuneration package and commensurate with experience and ability. Package includes company pension scheme, life assurance scheme, and private health care.
