Giannunzio Guzzini, chairman of iGuzzini illuminazione, market leader in Europe in the manufacturing of architectural lighting fixtures, and vice-chairman of FIMAG, the holding company of the Guzzini Group, which also includes Fratelli Guzzini, Teuco and Gitronica, passed away on 20th December 2006.
Giannunzio Guzzini was born in Recanati, in the Marche region of Italy, on the 10th July 1938, married Maria Mattutini and was father to two children, Monica and Francesco (Francesco died tragically at a young age).
In the 1960s, he entered into a partnership with his brothers (Giuseppe, Giovanni, Raimondo, Virgilio and Adolfo) aimed at setting up new industrial activities dealing with the transformation of plastic materials.
Since 1966 he dedicated his efforts to iGuzzini illuminazione, following the technological evolution and innovation in the manufacturing sector very closely. It is thanks to his great technical skills, clearly evident in the 5 international patents registered in his name, that the company was able to achieve its current position as an international market leader.
As a mark of recognition relating to his entrepreneurial experience and to the emphasis he always placed on technological research, on the 15th November this year he was awarded an honorary degree in Chemistry by the University of Camerino.
Giannunzio Guzzini worked intensely within the trade associations which awarded him significant roles in the development of this sector of industry; he was chairman of CELMA (the European Association of Electrotechnical Product Manufacturers) for the two-year period of 1995-1996 and chairman of ASSIL (the Association of Italian Lighting Industries) from 2000 to 2004. He was also a member of the Board of Directors and Committee of ANIE (the National Federation of Electrotechnical and Electronic Businesses).
Giannunzio Guzzini leaves a large absence in the lives of all the individuals who were fortunate enough to know him. He also leaves behind a legacy to younger generations in his example of his great dedication to the work he performed, which may be summarised in his own words aimed at young people on the occasion of his honorary degree conferment ceremony: "everything is possible; the important thing is to love your work and never give up. With a little insight, a little luck and a little intelligence you can achieve excellent results."
