Jules Horton, a recognized innovator in the Architectural Lighting field and founder of Jules G. Horton Lighting Design (now
Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design, Inc., www.hlblighting.com), died in his home on February 23.
An established pioneer in the lighting design field, Horton was honored by the International Association of Lighting Designers
(IALD) in 1998 and was responsible for a number of large-scale ground breaking projects including Dallas Fort Worth International
Airport, Jeddah International Airport, University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia, and Tour de Credit Lyonais in Lyon,
France.
A native of Poland, Horton overcame a lifetime of challenges before attaining success, including surviving a labor camp in
Arkhangelsk Islands, Russia. In addition to his contributions to the field of lighting design, Horton maintained a lifelong passion for
travel, art and literature and was fluent in English, Polish, German, Russian, French and Italian.
Horton will be honored posthumously at both the IALD Awards Dinner in May, 2007 as well as the Lumen Awards in June, 2007.
