Lighting Design Awards Announce New Green Category for 2008

Following the huge level of entries biased towards energy efficiency at last year's Lighting Design Awards, a special green category is being introduced into the Lighting Design Awards to recognise lighting installations that balance exceptional creativity with minimal environmental impact.

Projects can be entered specially into the new Low Carbon category or the judges can nominate projects from other sections. "This category is designed to nail the myth that it's impossible to deliver a visually-strong lit environment in a low-energy project," said Ray Molony of organisers Emap. "We need to show clients and the wider industry that having a low-carbon footprint needn't mean hairshirt T5 jobs."

The category is expected to be one of the most keenly contested. It replaces the entertainment category, which has run for the last two years. Entries for this - and all the awards categories - will be Friday 12 October.

The presentation ceremony will be held on Thursday 6 March 2008 at the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane.
