Lord Mayor unveils Joe Scarborough Painting to commemorate, Arup's 50th Year in Yorkshire

    International engineering consultancy, Arup celebrated their 50th Anniversary on Thursday 13th September at one of the company's latest restoration projects, Weston Park Museum in Sheffield with the unveiling by the Lord Mayor of the specially commissioned Painting by local artist Joe Scarborough. Lord Mayor, Councillor Arthur Dunworth joined the party which featured performances by Sheffield City Opera and the Clement String Quartet. Over 250 representatives of companies from Sheffield and across the region were present.

    The Arup office in Sheffield was the first of 30 in the UK and 60 around the world to be established outside London and was originally established to help the City Architect with the engineering design for the post-war reconstruction programme. Now with staff numbering over 400 in the region, Arup's leading edge engineering design skills are in demand for projects around the region and beyond.

    Justin Evans, Director for Yorkshire commented "50 years is a major milestone for us. Whether it is our work on York Minster, Emley Moor mast or the New Retail Quarter in Sheffield, we are proud of our contribution to the regeneration of the region. I am delighted with the vibrant way Joe has captured our work in the region".

    250 limited edition prints of Joe's painting of "Our Arup" have been signed by the artist are being sold with the proceeds being donated to the Sheffield Alzheimers Society.
