CHANDELIER
The warm, relaxing environment created by Diffuse lighting, inspired Alex Riley, the owner of the new Goldbrick House restaurant complex in Bristol, to base the dˇcor of his new project entirely around Diffuse chandeliers.
Made from fine natural porcelain, which creates a warm and flattering light, he knew they would create the exact ambience he desired. By day they provide a weight-less sculpture-like focus to each room, and by night - when illuminated, they cast a unique warm, soft and flattering radiance.
On visiting the Bristol building site in Feb. 2006, Diffuse design director Lucy Boatswain, recalls walking on planks and visualizing the yet-to-be built restaurant areas whilst discussing possible styles of bespoke chandeliers made up of suspended fine tiles of handcrafted matt natural porcelain. As a result the oval chandeliers which are now outstanding features in all three restaurant spaces were designed in the Diffuse Studio and created in the company's Porcelain Factory in Befordshire. In different dimensions to fit their location, there is one 4-tier oval measuring 2m by 1 m. and three smaller ovals measuring 1.5m by 70cm, with matching wall lights throughout. Two 5-tier circular chandeliers hang above the stairwell leading to the upstairs restaurant.
As a result of his decision to feature the lighting, Alex realized that his concept of large neutral lighting features would affect the entire space in each room, so he simplified his plans for the interior decoration of the restaurants, allowing the lights to be the main focus of attention.
'Reactions are overwhelmingly positive' reports Reilley. 'Most importantly people feel comfortable. This is always a key word in getting the design balance right. Feeling comfortable is an emotion that most associate with being at home, and we wanted people to feel at home at Goldbrick.'
All lighting created by Diffuse is made from a unique formulation of natural matt porcelain. The company has a stock range of pendant lamp shades, table lights and a variety of chandeliers. Bespoke designs are individually created in many shapes and dimensions, working closely with architects, designers and other clients.
